Both have its own effect,but if talk in a broader way we know valcanoes are extincted from current world whereas we still face earthquake in massive number in countries like japan.

But still i think volcanoes are more destructive than earthquakes,in earthquake we still have a oppurtunity to survive.we can use many different surviving technique once earthquake started,like hiding under a table or standing in a corner or even going to open place.

But once volcanoe started we have no choice if we are in range there is no option of survival.we cant take shelter anywhere,it causes massive destruction.

Animals cant even sense it and have to face it till death,it even clears the whole forest situated in its range.
